ISO: how to keep a six tier wedding cake from collapsing

I'm making my 2nd wedding cake. The first was only 2 tiers. This one will be 6 tiers. I'm terrified the cake will collapse. I know about supporting with dowels in each layer. However, I'm afraid to hammer 1 long dowel through all 6 tiers. All the books i've checked only show 3 tiered stacked cakes. I'm wondering if there's other technique I should know about for a 6 tiered cake. I'm really nervous the dowels won't be enough support and the cake will collapse. Also, I think I will have to cut it. I'm nervous about trying to separate the layers to dissemble the cake. Someone with experience please advise. Thanks, Elizabeth
