Misc.
Hi Med :-> I have been through TN, a very long time ago and thought it was absolutely beautiful. It was not, however, in the fall. I am jealous that you have hickory nuts. When I was growing up in NY State, there was a wonderful hickory tree across the street from us. The people who lived there, had no interest in the nuts so we collected them every fall. My mother would often make the most delicious Hickory Nut Cake. It must have taken her hours to get enough of the meat out of the nuts for a cake!! We used to crack them with my father's hammer and eat them - so good! Yummy:-) Here in my part of MA, the leaves have started to change but are far from their peak. About the second week in Oct. is usually good for "leaf peeping" here. The further north you go (Vermont, New Hampshire, Upstate NY), the earlier the leaves will be at their peak. I hope that you have a delightful trip and that the timing is perfect for your "leaf peeping!" BTW, have you had black walnuts and do you like them? I like them as well as regular hickory nuts. They have a very distinct flavor that some may not care for. I have a recipe for Congo Bars, from a friend of my mothers, that calls for black walnuts. They are very tasty:-)!
