Slip Sliding Away...

Misc.
Do I ever remember wax paper. I remember grade school with our metal red plaid, Howdy Doody, or Roy Rogers lunch boxes. The smells that would escape those from those tuna, bologna, roast beef, spam-salad wax-wrapped sandwiches and tomato, veggie, chicken noodle soups would permeate the cloak room. Gosh, are there any cloak rooms left in schools now?

Another use of wax paper, that I'm glad hasn't been copied by the Ziploc Generation, was sitting on a piece of wax paper and going down the metal playground slide at recess. This greased the metal so much that it was hard to stay upright. We thought we were astonauts. It was the ultimate thrill to measure who would be shot off the bottom of the slide farthest and in one piece. Can you imagine if they started doing this today at McDonald's play stations? Lawsuit City.

I seem to remember my mother running her iron across wax paper to help it glide.

I crumple wax paper and wrap baked goods before putting them in zipper bags to freeze. Any frost sticks to the paper, not the item. Works for opened ice cream, too. I pat burgers out on wax paper, then tear between the patties and stack them to carry to grill. Turn upside down, plop on the grill, lift off the paper....easy, peasy.

Quick, someone call Cut-Rite. We're on a roll!
