ISO: Request to Gladys and Halyna

You are both such a fount of knowledge. Maybe you can help me with this one.
When I was travelling in Peru with relatives, we were given as a bar appetizer large corn kernels that had been roasted with oil and salt. Sounds easy, but I haven't been able to duplicate it. I don't know what it was called they they told me it actually did roughly translate to "popcorn." I believe the roasting process took a number of hours. Do either of you (or anyone else out there) know to what I am referring? If so, instructions on this (temperature, time, amounts) would be so greatly appreciated. I have tried numerous times, without success, and just end up with burnt corn kernels. Thanks in advance and Happy New Year to all!
