jam - thank you so much for your in-put re bread machine. i, too, do not like the hole in the bottom of the loaf but didn't know there was a machine that works around that. (how does it mix?) i'm going to look closely at the west bend on my next shopping trip. hope it makes a smaller loaf also, as there are only two of us now. madeleine
