Kathy, we don't give out candy either. (more)

Misc.

I get a catalog from The Oriental Trading Company, and you can get cute toys by the dozen or gross very inexpensively. Last year we figured on 50 per child --- that's what the candy usually amounted to. We bought those light-up bracelets and necklaces, figuring that would give the children enjoyment as well as making them more visible to traffic. Before we ran out of the lighted things, only one kid complained about "no candy! just stupid kid stuff" (don't you know, he was in "wartime military gear", and probably all of 14). After the lighted stuff ran out, we gave out balloons, and the kids were satisfied with that. After a total of 108 kids at the door, we finally had to turn off our lights and call it quits.
The moms really like the idea of NoSweets, and said that they will start doing the same thing starting this year.
Now - if only they's set the ages for kids Young enough and Old enough to appreciate the holiday... mommies also take newborns out in strollers to trick-or-treat.
