Kid's party ideas

Misc.
Hi Sandra - I have long ago decided it is a losing proposition to try and make a "healthy meal" for a kids party, but you do have to serve something besides dessert, don't you?! ;o)

I find that pigs in a blanket are almost universally liked by the kids - have some ketchup for them to dip in. If you can't bake on the premises, simple sandwiches of turkey, ham, american cheese, and pb&js with the crusts cut off (this one time!) and cut into triangles will work.

Also, a plate of carrot, celery and other veggie sticks with ranch dressing tends to have a few takers, but don't go crazy unless you can use the leftovers. ;o) A bowl of pretzels is healthier than other chips, and apple cider is a good harvest drink which is better for them than sodas.

An easy idea I recently saw was for cheesy breadsticks - you buy those breadstick packages in the refrigerator section and sticks of string cheese. You stretch out the individual breadstick dough pieces so that they can be pinched closed around a piece of string cheese. Bake according to the package directions until dough is nicely browned. Serve with warm meatless spaghetti sauce as a dip.

The other idea I think is cute is to make the easy caramal apples (melt caramel candy cubes), but dip those very small "lady" apples in them. Seems like a perfect size for little kids.

Hope some of these ideas help - good luck!!!
