re: Best Apples for Pie - How about a mixture of Cortlands and Macs?

Misc.
My mother almost always used Northern Spies but, as everyone else has said, they can be hard to find. Like June, I love the flavor of Macintosh but they aren't firm enough to use exclusively for a pie so I sometimes use part Cortlands, and part Macintosh. Thos combination seems to work pretty well.
