Re: Macs for Apple Pie...

Misc.
Hi June:-) I, too, have used Macs exclusively for apple pie. I can't say that either DH or I were disappointed with the results. You had mentioned Pink Lady apples in one of your earlier posts. My girls love them for eating apples. I don't know anything about whether they would be good for cooking. I probably wouldn't try them since I'm pretty happy with Cortlands and Macs. When I make the Harvest Apple Cake that I posted at some point, I use Cortlands.

I'm not sure which is the farmer's market where you found the Northern Spies, here in Western Mass. For some reason, I feel like I saw them at one of the local grocery stores but I could be wrong. I hate to say that it didn't occur to me to buy any. What was I thinking? Growing up in Ithaca, N.Y., and Cornell University having their own apple orchard, I don't remember my mother having any trouble finding Northern Spies way back when. I wonder if Betsy has any trouble finding them in her part of N.Y.?

The weather, here, has been a bit back and forth. Just this last week, we had highs in the mid 60's and low 70's. The past couple of days, we have had lows in the low to mid-20's. The days have been sunny with highs in the mid-40's with little wind, so it has been a tad chilly but not so bad. I'm not ready to start complaing - yet:-)
