re: I use to work at Love's in the 70's
Misc.I use to work at the Love's BBQ on Shelter Island in 1974.
It was a wonderful experience with fantastic food. We had a GREAT staff of people working there......many fond memories. Even as a starving high school student, I would scrape together enough of my nightly tip money to buy a quart size container of the baked beens. Even though I could eat as much as I wanted while I was there, I couldn't get enough to them! I remember it taking about a day and half to slow cook the beens and BBQ sauce to create these beans. I also remember them putting in small chunks of beef to give it a very distintive flavor. I asked for the recipe while I was there and gave it to my mom to re-create at her home (and my mom is a GREAT cook), but she was not able to reproduce it. I will try to locate it from her and report back.
The Harbor Island location closed in the late 70's. I went to the location in Mission Valley and ordered some beans to go (in the early 90's), but the beans were not the same anymore. I noticed that they were not putting the pieces of beef into it anymore.
I did buy a bottle of the BBQ sauce before the Mission Valley location closed. So if anyone wants me to post the ingrediants, let me know.
Best,
Mark
