Rick-rack edged aprons!
Misc. This past summer when we were breaking up my mother's house, I salvaged several of those old-fashioned 1940's aprons with the little flower prints and the rick-rack edging. My grandmother had made them years ago and my mother still had them. How I treasure them!
Several years ago, we were in a cute little restaurant in Conn. and it was country-themed, and all over the walls and on those wooden clothes-drying racks, they had displays of those aprons and embroidered dishtowels.
It puts me to shame when I think how women of that generation sat evenings and productively crocheted, embroidered and edged things like dishtowels, pillowcases, baby slips, etc. No TV for them! It was surely a different life back then. I found facecloths that my mother had neatly crocheted little thread edgings all around - can you imagine, washcloths!!
One question I have re: the iron skillet. I tried so hard years ago to season one of those skillets, and I never seemed to be able to get it so all I had to do was wipe it out. It seemed that I always needed to soak it to get the stuck on stuff off. Did I just not have it seasoned enough? I ended up throwing it away (don't hate me! - I was young and foolish)
Gina, this is a wonderful menu - also, the Meyers lemons - are those the big huge mild flavored lemons? I want to put a lemon tree in our back yard when we return to FL and that's the type I want to put in - they make such wonderful lemonade!
Love, June
