Recipe: Amish Wedding Steak, and Amish Steak (2 recipes) for Mary Lynn, Ohio
Main Dishes - Beef and Other MeatsHi Mary Lynn:-) I found these two recipes on the internet. I have not tried either one. I hope they are similar to what you are looking for.
AMISH WEDDING STEAK
"The Amish people in our area often serve this at their weddings. It's easy and very tasty."
Makes 9-10 servings
2 lbs. ground beef
2 cups soda cracker crumbs
2 cups milk
1 sm. onion, chopped
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1 (10 3/4 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup
1 soup can of water
1 can mushrooms (may also use fresh)
Mix meat, crumbs, milk, onion and spices together. Pat down firmly in square cake pan let set overnight. Cut into serving size squares, roll in flour.
Brown on both sides (in margarine or butter) Set in baking dish and cover with mixture of soup, water and mushrooms.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 90 minutes.
AMISH STEAK
1 1/2 lb. lean hamburger
1 cup dry bread crumbs
2 eggs
1 small onion, chopped
1 tsp. salt
Pepper
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
Oil (for frying)
1 cans (10 3/4 oz. each) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 soup can water
1/2 soup can milk or evaporated milk
1 can mushrooms, drained
Mix hamburger, bread crumbs, eggs, onion, salt, pepper, and garlic powder together with hands.
Grease a square baking dish, form meat mixture into baking dish. Cut into 9 pieces.
In large skillet, fry all pieces together in some oil, keeping pieces intact. Drain on paper towels. Return fried pieces to baking dish.
Mix mushroom soup with 1/2 can water and milk. Pour soup over meat in baking dish. Add drained mushrooms, spread around.
Bake, uncovered, in 350 degree F oven for 30-40 minutes.
ALTERNATE COOKING METHOD:
Make meat mixture into spoon size balls and fry. Remove grease. Put meat into baking dish, add soup and mushrooms. Bake 1/2 hour in 350 degree F oven.
