APPLESAUCE CAKE AND FROSTING
2 c. raisins, cooked and drained
2 c. applesauce
2 c. sugar
1 1/4 c. butter or shortening
4 c. flour
4 tsp. soda
3 eggs
3/4 c. hickory nuts, or nuts of your choice
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Add applesauce, then flour, then remaining ingredients. Mix until well blended and spread in a greased 9z13 pan and bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees or until it tests done in the middle. Cool and spread with frosting.
FROSTING:
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 c. Carnation evaporated milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Bring sugars and milk to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for 3 to 5 minutes and remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour over cooled cake.
