Recipe: Assembly Line Cookies (Occident/Kind Midas Flour, 1960's)

ASSEMBLY LINE COOKIES

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3 to 3 1/4 cups flour
nuts, cherry pieces or decorettes (or frosting optional)

Cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, salt and baking soda; beat well. Gradually add flour to make stiff dough. Chill at least 1 hour.

WHEN READY TO BAKE:
Roll out 1 cup dough 1/4-inch thick on ungreased cookie sheet to 12 x 3 1/2-inch strips. Trim edges. Cut in strips, triangles or squares. Decorate with nuts, cherry pieces or decorettes. (Or frost and decorate after baking).

Bake at 375 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown. Immediately cut through where marked.
