Recipe: Big Boy Pie (hamburger pie with biscuit mix crust)

Main Dishes - Beef and Other Meats
Dear Katie, I hope someone will have the exact recipe you're looking for. In the meantime, maybe this recipe is similar? Or it could have been your Mom's own creation - maybe she added ketchup in place of some of the milk when mixing the biscuit dough? Maybe a little experimenting with this recipe will help you recreate it. Happy Cooking! Betsy

BIG BOY PIE

1 lb. ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tbsp. catsup or chili sauce
1 tsp. salt (optional)
2 cups biscuit mix (Bisquick)
2/3 cup milk
1 cup stewed tomatoes, drained
1 cup grated cheese

Saute beef and onion together until brown; drain. Stir in catsup and salt. Set aside.

Stir milk into biscuit mix, until well blended. Turn onto lightly floured board. Knead 6 times, roll into a circular shape and place in a 9-inch pie pan.

Fill the crust with the meat and onion mixture. Cover with tomatoes and top with grated cheese.

Bake at 450 degrees F for 30 minutes.

Makes 6 servings
