BROWNIE TRIFLE DESSERT
1 (19.8 ounce) package fudge brownie mix
1/4 cup coffee-flavored liqueur, or 2 teaspoons instant coffee granules (optional)
1 (3.4 ounce) package instant chocolate mousse mix or chocolate instant pudding
6 (1.4 ounce each) toffee-flavored candy bars, crushed
1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
Prepare brownie mix and bake according to package directions.
Prick top of warm brownies at 1-inch intervals using a meat fork and brush with liqueur, if using (if using instant coffee granules, save them to combine with the chocolate mousse). Let brownies cool, then break into crumbles.
Prepare chocolate mousse or pudding, dissolving the coffee granules (if using) in the mixture; omit chilling the mousse.
TO ASSEMBLE THE TRIFLE:
Place half of the brownies in the bottom of a 3-quart trifle dish or large casserole dish. Top with half the mousse or pudding, half the crushed candy bars and half the whipped topping. Repeat layers, ending with whipped topping.
Chill 8 hours before serving.
Makes 16-18 servings
