Recipe(tried): Buffalo-Style Chicken Wings
Appetizers and Snacks This is how most places in Buffalo make their wings. Most people have heard of the Anchor Bar or Duff's but the best wings are at a little restaurant in Lancaster, NY called the Fireside Inn or at a bar in Wales Center, NY called the Wales Center Hotel. I grew up in the Buffalo area and we always called them Chicken Wings. I never heard them called Buffalo Wings until I left the area and heard other people call them that. I guess it does sound more appetizing when you call them that.
Barbara do they have fish frys in New Jersey? Anyone who hasn't had a fish fry, would love them I'm sure!
Chicken Wings
2-1/2 pounds chicken wings
1/2 cup Frank's Red Hot sauce
1/3 cup melted butter
Deep fry wings in 400 degree oil for 12 minutes or until they are crisp.
Mix the Frank's and the butter, then immediately toss your chicken wings around in the mixture in a sealed bucket. Serve with blue cheese and even more Frank's. This is how all of the chicken wings in Buffalo are made. Some places try to use Tabasco, but it is too much heat and not enough flavor. Frank's is the best stuff, you can even try Durkee's, which is the same as Frank's but the recipe is a little different, it has butter already in it. Good luck.
