BUTTERMILK SUGAR COOKIES
4 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white granulated sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
1 cup vegetable shortening (or butter)
Cream shortening and sugars. Add vanilla and eggs, then beat well.
Sift dry ingredients. Add to the mixture alternately with buttermilk in three portions. Sprinkle with sugars or ice after baked.
Bake at 375 degrees F for 12 to 14 minutes. Watch carefully! These should NOT brown!
If desired, sprinkle with sugars before baking or ice after baked and cooled.
