Laveta, you should use a rack of some kind to keep the jars off the bottom. I have even used a folded dish towel in a pinch. Like when putting up a small batch of 4-6 jars and just using a large pot instead of my water bath canner. Just be sure the pot is deep enough for about 2 inches of water to cover the jars and not boil over.
