Recipe: Cardamom Cookies (1958)

CARDAMOM COOKIES

1 3/4 cups sifted all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp powdered cardamom
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup finely chopped almonds
blanched almond halves

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a cookie sheet.

Sift flour, baking powder and cardamom together.

Cream butter, add sugar gradually. Cream well. Add egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and chopped almonds. Blend.

Roll 3/8 inch thick on floured canvas. Cut with small (1 1/2 inch) cookie cutter. Place almond half in center of each cookie. Place on greased cookie sheets.

Bake in preheated 350 degrees F oven 12-15 minutes.

Makes 5 1/2 dozen 1 1/2 inch cookies
