Chocolate Toffee Crunch Bars
2 cups crushed vanilla or graham crackers
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
To Make Crust: Combine crushed crackers, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 1/3 cup melted butter or margarine.
Press into a 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake for 8 minutes.
Toffee Layer: In saucepan, combine 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil; boil for 1 minute.
Pour immediately over baked cookie base. Bake for 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Let stand for 2 to 3 minutes, until chips are shiny and soft; spread evenly. Sprinkle with chopped nuts.
Chill; cut into 2 x 1 inch bars.
