Recipe: Crumb Cake

Crumb Cake

3 to 4 eggs
2 cups sugar
3/8 pound of butter
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla (lemon grated to add flavor)
3 cups flour
3 teaspoons (2-1/2 heaping) baking powder
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups milk

Preheat oven to 420 degrees. Cream together the sugar and butter. Add in eggs and beat well. Sift salt, flour, and baking powder. Add milk alternately with salt, flour, and baking powder. Grease your pan. Cook until done, around 30 minutes. Test with a knife or toothpick.

Ingredients for Crumbs
1 cup (1/2 pound) dark brown sugar
1-1/2 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon
A pinch of salt
2/3 cups melted Crisco shortening

Combine dry ingredients, then add melted shortening. Shake or toss, mixing to form balls or large crumbs. Crumble over cake.
