Recipe: Hamburger Shapes - Bumblebees for Lori
SandwichesHow about making baked hamburgers in the shape of Bumblebees? Put greased round toothpicks in where the antenna would go so you can twirl them around and pull them out when the burgers are baked. If you want to take the time, you can roll big "bug eyes" out of some of the hamburger mixture and add before baking.Top the hot burgers with sliced cheese just before finished cooking. Snip short pieces of fresh chives to insert (after baking)in the toothpick holes.
Another idea is to make hamburgers shaped like the outline of a ladybug"one regular size pattie wieh a smaller half-circle of meat pressed iinto one side. This half circle will stick out of the hamburger bun to simulate the head of a ladybug. Use red food coloring to paint lightly on the tops of the hamburger buns, then paint on black spots with black food coloring. If you have them, the dry powdered food coloring would be best for this so you do not get the buns soggy.
Or you might prefer to serve them open face and top the large part of the burger itself with a thin layer of red ketchup then stensil on the black spots.
It's hard to go wrong with teenagers and hamburgers. Good luck!
