BAGELS
1 (1 pound) loaf Rhodes Frozen Wheat Bread Dough
Water
2 tablespoons baking soda*
Sesame, poppy or caraway seeds (optional)
Thaw bread until soft (about 3 hours at room temperature).
Cut loaf into 6 equal portions. Roll each piece into a 6-inch rope. Join ends by pinching together to form a circle. Place on baking sheet that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray and let rise for 30 to 45 minutes.
Fill large saucepan with 6-inches of water and the baking soda * and bring to boil. Reduce heat so that water boils gently.
Lift each bagel with spatula and slide into boiling water. Boil on one side for 30 seconds; turn and boil on other side for 30 seconds. Remove and drain on rack.
If desired, sprinkle with seeds such as sesame, poppy, or caraway. Transfer bagels to baking sheet that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
Bake at 375 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.
*Salt sensitive consumers may wish to eliminate soda and brush bagels with beaten egg white before baking.
