Recipe: Honey Date Bars (Kellogg's All Bran recipe, 1960's)

HONEY DATE BARS

2 eggs
3/4 cup honey
1/2 cup sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon lalt
1/2 cup Kellogg's All-Bran cereal
1 cup cut dates
1/2 cup chopped nutmeats
Confectioner's sugar
Whipped cream (optional, for serving)

Beat eggs until thick; beat in honey, a little at a time.

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; mix with All Bran, dates and nutmeats. Add to first mixture and beat well. Spread batter 1/2-inch thick in greased 9x9-inch pan.

Bake in moderate oven (375 degrees F) about 25 minutes.

Cut into bars while warm and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. If desired, serve with whipped cream.

Makes 18 bars (3 x 1 1/2-inches)
