Recipe(tried): Seven Seas Creamy Italian Dressing (copycat recipe) - Variation
Salads - Salad DressingsVickie, you are a genius. Your recipe tastes so much like the real thing, it is truly a miracle. I sacrificed a large ketchup squeezy bottle for storage and dispensing--it holds the whole batch.
I did make a couple of very minor modifications I would like to share with you, and I hope you take them in the spirit of collaboration, not one-upsmanship! The only flaw that I found in the finished product was that it was just a tad too sweet. To remedy this, I used real mayonnaise instead of Miracle Whip, which has corn syrup. I also bumped up the distilled white vinegar to three tablespoons and added a fat pinch of kosher salt and a grating of black pepper. Also, and this does not affect the flavor at all, but I missed that signature yellow color so I added a half teaspoon of turmeric.
Another poster mentioned that she missed the tiny red flecks. I have found that if you use Kraft Zesty Italian dressing it has those little red bell pepper bits already in it, and the flavor is very reminiscent of Seven Seas. Also it comes in a convenient 8 oz bottle and I just go ahead and use the whole thing, instead of 3/4 cup.
Thanks again Vickie! You made my life better.
