Linzer Bars

Makes: 5 dozen
2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/2 cup margarine or butter -- (1 stick)
1/4 cup Corn Syrup
1/2 cup raspberry preserves
1/3 cup finely chopped walnuts
2/3 cup confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon milk
Prep Time: 15 Minutes
Cook Time: 14 Minutes
1. In large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon and lemon peel; set aside.
2. In small saucepan heat margarine and corn syrup over low heat until margarine melts. Pour over flour mixture; stir until thoroughly combined.
3. Divide dough into 5 equal pieces. On large ungreased baking sheet, pat each piece of dough into a 14 x 11-inch rope.
4. Combine preserves and walnuts. Make a depression down the center of each rope; fill with preserve mixture, mounding slightly.
5. Bake in 350 F oven 12 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from oven and cut diagonally into 1-inch wide slices.
6. In small bowl stir confectioners’ sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle over warm cookies. Cool on wire racks. Store in air-tight container.
