Recipe(tried): Mock Chop Suey

Main Dishes - Assorted
Originally from Wisconsin myself this may be a variation that my mother made.

Mock Chop Suey

1 lb. hamburger
1/4 cup rice
1 cup celery, cut up
1 large onion, cut up
1 tsp. soy sauce
1 cup water
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup

Mix and bake in 2 qt casserole for 1 1/2 hours at 350 degrees, then cover with chow mein noodles and bake 20 minutes more.

I don't see why stew meat and canned chinese vegetables couldn't be substituted. My mother was trying to feed 9 people and probably did what was most inexpensive.
