Recipe(tried): My Sausage Dressing - TKL'ers: An idea to cheer Gladys
Desserts - Cookies, Brownies, Bars I have an idea to CHEER Gladys. It seems that right now all she seems to getting pleasure from is cooking. If our neighbors or friends were under the weather, what would we do? Take food, of course! Let's all dig out that most requested recipe and send it to Gladys.
I'll start:
My Sausage Dressing
20 cups semi-dry bread cubes
1 1/2 lb. breakfast sausage
2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. poultry seasoning
1 1/2 tsp. rubbed sage
4 eggs (slightly beaten)
1 cup broth (aprox)
1/2 cup butter
3 cups chopped celery
3 cups chopped onion
Saute sausage, breaking up into small pieces. Add celery and onion and cook until tender, add butter. Combine all ingredients except eggs, refrigerate until time to cook turkey. Just before stuffing bird, add eggs and mix well. Makes enough for a 20# turkey.
Note: may be baked in a well greased casserole. Seal very tightly with aluminum foil, set casserole in a larger pan, with water coming 1/2 way up the side of the casserole. Bake at 325 deg. for about 1 1/2 hr.
