Old Fashioned Tomato Casserole

Combine in a saucepan:
2 pounds peeled chopped fresh tomatoes
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt [to taste]
4 slices bread, cut in 1/2-inch cubes
4 tablespoons butter (not margarine), melted

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Combine tomatoes, cloves, sugar, and salt in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until tomatoes are tender. Pour into a shallow baking dish. Top tomatoes with bread cubes. Pour melted butter over bread cubes. Bake in 400 degree oven until bread cubes are golden brown.
