Recipe(tried): Orange slice cookies

Desserts - Cookies, Brownies, Bars
Sadie, here is a recipe for drop cookies that are tried and true for years at my house.

Orange Slice Cookies

1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups oatmeal
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup cocnut
1 cup chopped orange slice candy pieces
1 cup nuts, chopped, optional

Cream the sugars and shortening together. Add egg, flour, soda and baking powder. Mix well. Add cocnut, nuts, candy and oatmeal. Mix well. Drop by teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet. bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cool a few minutes before removing from cookie sheet to prevent breaking. Cool completely on cooling rack.
