Recipe: Penny Wafers (cookies) from 1924

Desserts - Cookies, Brownies, Bars
I know it's been a long time, but I found this in an old newspaper article, from 1924. Hope it does the trick.

PENNY WAFERS

2 tbsp currants or chopped raisins
1 tbsp hot water
2 tsp rum, almond, or vanilla extract
1/4 cup (1/2 stick, 4tbsp) butter or margarine
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup all purpose flour

Combine raisins, 1 tablespoon water, and rum extract in small bowl; let stand about 1 hour to blend flavors.

Beat butter until soft in medium bowl with electric mixer at high speed; beat in sugar, then egg, beating until fluffy. Atir in flour and raisin mixture.

Drop batter by tsp, about 1 1/2-inches apart, on well greased cookie sheet.

Bake in hot oven (425 degrees F) 5 minutes, or until edges are golden. Remove to racks to cool.

Makes 5 dozen
