Recipe: Saucepan Brownies (using oats) (Quaker Oats, 1973)

SAUCEPAN BROWNIES

2/3 cup butter or margarine
1 1/3 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup Quaker Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
1 teaspoon vanilla

Melt butter in large saucepan. Add sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time, blending well.

Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Add to butter mixture. Stir in oats and vanilla.

Bake in greased 9-inch square pan in preheated moderate oven (350 degrees F) for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool (cut while warm).

VARIATION:

Nut Brownies:
Add 1/3 cup chopped nutmeats with the oats.

Makes 16 brownies
