This is the closest I have ever tasted. If you are a die-hard Lofthouse fan you'll notice the difference but it is close. You're on your own for the frosting though, can't figure that one out....
SUGAR COOKIES (LIKE LOFTHOUSE)
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. almond extract
1 cup white cake mix (straight out of the box)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cream of tartar
5 to 6 cups flour (this will be a soft dough--not a stiff one)
Cream together butter and sugars. Beat in eggs and sour cream; stir in extracts. Mix in cake mix and other dry ingredients EXCEPT flour. When all that is mixed well, then add the flour a little at a time. I did add all 6 cups. Cover and refrigerate (I did it overnight)
WHEN READY TO BAKE:
Cover your counter WELL with flour to roll out the dough. Again this is a soft dough and to be honest it's a bit of a pain to work with but it can be done. Roll to about 1/4 to 3/8-inch thick. Cut out and place on a UNGREASED cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees F for about 7-8 minutes. The cookies will rise to approximately 1/2 inch thick. I took them out as soon as they looked puffy they were still light on the bottom.
Cool and frost. (I don't like ANY of the powdered sugar frostings that I've tried so I'm still using ready-made can frosting from the store.) You're on your own with that one.
This may not be exact, but it's still the best sugar cookie i've ever had.
GOOD LUCK !!!
