Recipe: Sugared or Filled Donuts (using refrigerated biscuit dough)
Breakfast and Brunch Sugared or Filled Donuts (using refrigerated biscuit dough)
1 package refrigerated biscuits
1/4 cup melted shortening or cooking oil for deep fat frying.
granulated sugar
plastic food storage bag
jam, jelly, or pudding for filled donuts (optional)
Open refrigerated biscuit according to package directions (I always like the kind that you hit on the edge of the counter and they pop open). Separate biscuits. You can cook them as is, or you can cut them with a donut cutter so that they have a hole in the middle or use a clean screw top from a soda pop bottle to make the hole.
Heat shortening or oil to about 375 degrees. Fry two or three donuts at a time in the hot fat for about 1 minute per side, or until they are a golden brown. Turn once with a slotted spoon. Drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining doughnuts and doughnut holes. While still warm, shake donuts and holes in a bag with sugar.
For filled donuts:
do not cut holes in center. When cool, cut a hole on one side and fill with a spoonful of jam or jelly or you can also fill with chocolate or vanilla pudding.
