Recipe: Toffee Brownie Bars (using brownie mix)

TOFFEE BROWNIE BARS

FOR THE CRUST:
3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg yolk
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
FOR THE FILLING:
1 package Duncan Hines Chewy Fudge Brownie Mix, Family Size
1 egg
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
FOR THE TOPPING:
1 (12 ounce) package milk chocolate chips, melted
3/4 cup finely chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F Grease 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch pan.

TO MAKE THE CRUST:
Combine butter, brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla extract. Stir in flour. Spread in pan. Bake 15 minutes or until golden.

TO MAKE THE FILLING:
Prepare brownie mix following package directions. Spread on hot crust.

Bake 15 minutes. Cool 30 minutes.

TO MAKE THE TOPPING:
Spread melted chocolate on brownie layer and top with chopped pecans. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

TO FREEZE AHEAD:
These bars may be made ahead and frozen in an airtight container for several weeks with good results.

Makes 48 bars
