VANILLA NUT BREAD"Sweet and tasty vanilla icing marries beautifully with tender sweet crumb and toasted sliced almonds."
FOR THE DOUGH:
1/2 cup water
1 large egg
1 (3-inch) piece vanilla bean*
1 (8 ounce) cup vanilla yogurt
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread flour
1/2 cup sliced almonds, toasted
3 tablespoons dry milk powder
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons Fleischmann's Bread Machine Yeast
Vanilla Glaze (recipe follows)
Combine 1/2 cup water and egg in small bowl. With sharp knife, split vanilla bean in half lengthwise. With spoon, scrape seeds from bean; add to egg mixture.
Add egg mixture and remaining dough ingredients to bread machine pan, in the order suggested by manufacturer.
Select dough/manual cycle.
When cycle is complete, remove dough from machine to a lightly floured surface. If necessary, knead in enough flour to make dough easy to handle. Divide dough into 3 equal pieces. Roll each piece to 10-inch rope; braid ropes together. Pinch ends to seal.
Place in greased 9x5-inch loaf pan. Cover; let rise in warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.
Bake at 375 degrees F for 35 to 40 minutes or until done. Remove from pan; cool on wire rack.
Drizzle with Vanilla Glaze.
VANILLA GLAZE
1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
1 to 2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth.
*If desired, replace vanilla bean with 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
Makes 1 loaf
