About the white pie recipe from Benton, IL. The restaurant name is Burton's cafe. That is the only place I have ever heard of this pie too. I tell people about it and they just want to know what's in it. The following is the recipe for white pie that my mother-in-law gave me.
WHIRE PIE (not Burton's)
2 cups milk
1 1/4 cups sugar, divided use
1/2 cup flour
4 egg whites*
1 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp margarine, softened
1 pre-baked pie crust
Cool Whip and chopped pecans (for topping)
Heat milk until very warm. Pre-mix 3/4 cup of the sugar, flour, and salt; stir into milk. Cook and stir until thick.
Beat egg whites with the remaining 1/2 cup sugar and vanilla until thick. Add margarine.** Pour into pre-baked crust.
After cooled, top with cool whip and chopped pecans. Enjoy!
I hope any who try it love it as much as we do.
Rhonda
**Editor's note:
Hi Rhonda,
Thank you for sharing the recipe. The recipe didn't state how to combine the beaten egg whites and cooked mixture. Should the cooked mixture be cooled first?
