ISO: Flat cookie problems

Misc.
Everytime I make chocolate chip cookies they come out flat/thin. How can this problem be resolved? I have tried several recipes, tried using shortenig rather that butter, used air bake pans and regular baking sheets all with the the same results. Help!! All I am looking for is a thicker cookie.
