Dear Karen: For us in the tropics mosquitoes can be deadly.

Misc.
For example, there is not malaria anymore in Puerto Rico since the late 1940th, but unfortunately I was one of the last cases of such a deadly illness. I was 1 year old and my mother told me the story many times that she realized I was sick because I was convulsing. They were married for 20 years without having babies before I was born. You can imagine the desperation of that middle aged couple when their first born darling was dying because of malaria. To this day I hate mosquitoes and avoid them as much as possible. There is also another less severe fever (mosquito caused)known as DENGUE that can kill if it causes loss of blood.

Anyway, we use all kinds of mosquito repellents as soon as summer & the rain begin, causing the mosquitoes to multiply. There are public campaigns against having stagnant water in our patios. And all houses have screens on all doors & windows. That is part of our Tropical life and we really take seriously our measures for protection against mosquito bites.

Please, take good care of yourself and of Simon because if an infected mosquito bites one of you, you will get very sick!

Your friend,

Gladys/PR
