Apple Cake with Lemon Glaze

3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup milk
2 cups peeled, chopped apples
1/2 cup chopped slivered almonds, toasted*
Glaze
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2-4 teaspoons lemon juice
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 9-inch square pan.
In large bowl cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs; mix well.
Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off.
In small bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk to butter mixture, beating well after each addition. Stir in chopped apples and almonds. Pour into prepared pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool 10 minutes.
In small bowl combine powdered sugar and lemon juice. Stir until smooth; drizzle over warm cake. Cool completely.
