BRAMBOROVA BUCHTA (POTATO HOT BREAD)
1 cake yeast or 1 package active dry
1 1/2 cups milk, divided use
1 tsp sugar
1 raw potato, peeled
1 1/2 tsp salt
3 1/4 cups flour
Sliced apples or halved fresh plums
Melted butter (for serving)
Crumble yeast into 1/2 cup lukewarm milk, add sugar, let rise.
Grate the raw potato, scald with 1/2 cup hot milk, then mix in remaining 1/2 cup milk (cold) to cool mixture.
Stir in yeast, salt and flour to make a thick batter; let rise until double in bulk. Pour into a well-greased baking pan (about 9x12x2-inches) and let rise again.
Arrange sliced apples or halved fresh prunes in rows on top.
Bake in hot oven 425-450 degrees F; about 45 minutes, or until well-browned and crusty.
Serve it cut into squares with melted butter poured over it.
