Buttermilk Spice Doughnuts

Serving Size : 16
3 3/4 cups flour
1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
1 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons butter, melted
1 1/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
vegetable oil for frying
1/4 cup pwdered sugar
In a small bowl, sift flour, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, baking pwder, baking soda and salt. Stir well to evenly distribute.
In a large bowl, using an electric mixer on low speed, beat butter, 3/4 cup of the granulated sugar, eggs and buttermilk until combined. Add half of the dry ingredients and beat until blended. Stir in remaining dry ingredients. Cover and refrigerate for 1 and 1/2 hours.
Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or deep fat fryer to 365F. Place half of dough on a floured surface, turning dough to coat with flour. Pat out dough to 3/8 inches thick. Cut with a floured 2 3/4 inch doughnut cutter.
Fry 3 to 4 doughnuts and a few holes at a time until browned and cooked through, about 2 minutes, turning once. Drain on a paper towel lined cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining dough.
Combine powdered sugar, remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon in a paper bag. Shake until well blended. Place warm doughnuts in bag, a few at a time, and shake to cover.
Best served warm or within a few hours after frying.
