Recipe: Cheese Frenchies (like King's Food Host)
Sandwiches(Originally posted by the sheriff)
I found the recipe on the net. I went to college in Ft. Collins Colorado in the '60 and had many a cheese frenchie at the King's there, so I can attest to the authenticity. They also made a killer hot italian sausage grinder. Anyway, here is the real thing, right down to the corn flakes. All others are wanna be's.
My brother-in-law was a manager of King's in Nebraska,(where it started). Here's the REAL Cheese Frenchie recipe.
The recipe for Cheese Frenchies, which was featured at King's Food Host. The following recipe is similar to the ones that were served there.
CHEESE FRENCHIES
6 slices white bread
6 slices American Cheese
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
3/4 cup flour
1 tsp. salt
Kellogg's Corn Flake Crumbs
Mayonnaise
Oil for deep fat frying
Make 3 sandwiches, using 2 slices of American Cheese per sandwich. Spread mayonnaise on bread slices. Cut sandwiches into triangles.
Combine egg, milk, flour and salt. Dip the triangle sandwiches into egg mixture, and coat with corn flake crumbs.
Fry in deep fat at 375 degrees until golden.
**American Cheese is a must. Do not use any other kind, as it melts too easily.
