recipes. The first one is higher in fat and calories. The
second one is revised to be healthier.
Cheez bar-b-que bake
Makes 8 servings
1 pound ground beef
cup chopped green pepper
1 can (12 ounces) nibblets corn
1 cup barbecue sauce (Kraft original recommended)
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 can (2.8 ounces) french fried onions
4 cups frozen country-style hash browned potatoes
1 jar (8 ounces) Cheez Whiz
cup milk
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brown ground beef, add
green pepper and cook until tender. Add corn, barbecue
sauce, chili powder, half the french fried onions; cook five
more minutes.
In 13-by-9-by-2-inch baking dish melt 4 ounces of the
Cheez Whiz in milk and blend until it covers the bottom of
dish, cover cheese with 2 cups of hash browns, top with
half the ground beef mixture, cover ground beef with
remaining hash browns. Add remaining ground beef; cover
with rest of Cheez Whiz. Bake uncovered in 350 degree
oven for 20-25 minutes. Add remaining french fried onions
and bake another five minutes, or until brown.
Nutrition analysis per serving: 438 calories, 23 g fat, 20
g protein, 30 g carbohydrates, 36 mg cholesterol, 1158 mg
sodium.

Revised cheese bar-b-que bake
Makes 8 servings
1 pound ground top sirloin
cup chopped green pepper
cup chopped onion
1 can (11 ounces) nibblets corn, undrained
1 cup barbecue sauce (Lea & Perrins Bold 'n' Spicy)
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 cup shredded Healthy Choice low-fat cheddar cheese
cup nonfat skim milk
4 cups frozen country style hash browned potatoes
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brown ground sirloin. Add
green pepper and onion; cook until tender. Add corn,
barbecue sauce and chili powder, cook five more minutes.
Melt cup of the shredded cheese in milk over medium
heat, stirring continuously until cheese is melted and blended
with milk.
Layer in order in a 13-by-9-by-2-inch baking dish the
cheese/milk mixture, 2 cups hash browns, half the ground
sirloin mixture.
Repeat layering, ending with ground sirloin mixture. Bake
uncovered 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees.
Sprinkle remaining cup shredded cheese over top of
casserole and bake another five minutes, or until cheese
melts.
Nutritional analysis per serving: 289 calories, 8 g fat,
22 g protein, 35 g carbohydrates, 35 mg cholesterol, 444
mg sodium.
