Recipe: Coconut Cherry Bars (using maraschino cherries and mini chocolate chips)

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup maraschino cherries; chopped
1 (6 oz) pkg mini chocolate chips
2/3 cup sweetened and flaked coconut
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Well grease a 13x9-inch baking pan.
Cream butter or margarine and add sugar gradually. Add egg and vanilla, mix well; set aside.
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Stir into creamed mixture. Stir in nuts, cherries, coconut, chocolate chips. Spread in prepared baking pan.
Bake in preheated 375 degree F oven for 25 minutes or till firm in the center. Cool and cut into squares.
