LEMON TWISTS WITH LEMON GLAZE
1 pkg. dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees F)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons margarine, softened
1 egg
4 cups Bisquick, divided use
1 tablespoon margarine, melted
1 tablespoon grated lemon peel
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon mace
Lemon Glaze (recipe follows)
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in granulated sugar, sour cream, 2 tablespoons softened margarine, egg and 2 cups Bisquick. Mix on low speed for 30 seconds. Beat on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally.
Stir in remaining 2 cups Bisquick. Knead 5 minutes on floured surface.
Roll dough into rectangle, 7x 18-inches. Spread with 1 tablespoon margarine.
Mix lemon peel, brown sugar and mace. Sprinkle over dough. Fold dough tightly lengthwise into thirds; seal edges.
Cut into eighteen 1-inch pieces. Twist ends of pieces in opposite directions. Place on greased cookie sheet; press ends onto cookie sheet to fasten securely. Let rise in warm place 1 hour.
Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
Bake until golden brown, 15-20 minutes.
While twists are warm, spread with Glaze.
LEMON GLAZE
Mix together:
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2-3 teaspoons water
Makes 18 twists
