Here's a lion cake. Hope it helps, Micha

DANDY-LION CAKE
Source: Baker's Coconut Animal Cut-Up Cakes 1959

Baked 9-inch square cake
1 cup toasted coconut
stick candy
1 large black gumdrop
1 large red gumdrop
2 red licorice laces
2 cups orange frosting
4 black licorice sticks
1 large marshmallow
1 large white mint

Cut a 5x3 1/2-inch rectangle for the lion's body. The remaining piece will form the head and chest of the lion. Frost the cake, swirling it generously for 'furry' effect.

Use lots of toasted coconut for a thick mane. Your lion stalks on legs made of bent licorice sticks. The tail Is stick candy, with a pom-pom of marshmallow, frosted and coated with coconut.

Make an ear out of the black gumdrop, mouth out of the red lace licorice, the eye out of the large mint and the nose out of the red gumdrop.
