Recipe: More (spaghetti casserole with ground beef, tomatoes, peas, corn, and cheese)

1 tablespoon shortening (or oil)
2 onions, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
3 cloves garlic, slivered
1 lb. ground beef
1 (20 oz.) can solid-pack tomatoes (2 1/2 cups)
3 tablespoons chili powder
1 cup water
1 (4 oz.) can mushroom stems and pieces
1 (10 oz.) package frozen peas, cooked
1 (16 oz.) can whole-kernel corn
Salt and pepper to taste
8 to 12 oz. spaghetti, cooked
2 cups grated sharp cheese
1. Melt shortening in a saucepan; add chopped onions, pepper and garlic, but do not brown.
Add ground beef and cook until browned.
Add tomatoes, chili powder and water; cover and cook over low heat for 30 minutes.
Add mushrooms, cooked peas, corn, salt and pepper; last, add cooked spaghetti to sauce and mix together well.
Pour half the mixture into a large greased baking dish; cover with half the cheese; then add remaining spaghetti mixture and top with remaining cheese.
Bake in oven at 350 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes.
Makes 8 servings
