I had the best baked apples at my mother-in-laws the other night. She picks some VERY LARGE apples, of the sweeter variety as opposed to sour apples) and cores them. fills them with brown sugar, a dab of butter, sultanas (raisins) and/or dates and a bit of cinnamon and/or nutmeg (she grinds her own and says don't spoil my recipe with powdered stuff). Then she buys some pastry from her local grocer and wraps each apple, individually in pastry then bakes for how ever long they take.

Truly delicious apples and all she uses is a baking pan or glass casserole dish.
